REEA puts out call for presentations

REEA is slated to hold their annual meeting in June in San Antonio, Texas and has recently put out the call for presentations. While there are other events where instructors can see Ed Directors and even more opportunities to get out in front of real estate professionals, REEA is still that rare place where educators, publishers and delivery organizations meet.

Just like in all other areas of real estate, the education arm meets to share ideas and to learn from each other. Presenting at REEA should still be something that each of us in the industry consider to be an honor. Check out the information sent out by REEA below;

Hello REEA Members,

The 2010 Annual REEA Conference is June 14-16 at the Marriott Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas. The conference planning team is working to put on a GREAT event you won’t want to miss and part of its greatness will be YOUR contribution!

2010 RAPDD & Educators Summit early bird registration ends this week

For instructors in real estate looking to get their message in front of Association Education Directors from accross the country, there may not be a better avenue than the RAPDD Summit. The summit, hosted by the Wichita Area Association of REALTORS®, is designed to both educate and market instructors. Having attended the summit in 2009 I can say that the speaker showcase is a well run session where instructors are given 10 minutes to present to a large group of education directors who have the ability and desire to present timely, effective programs to their members.

You can read my comments on the 2009 Summit by clicking here, and please note that I expect more education directors and association staff to take part in the 2010 Summit due to NAR offering a $400 stipend. I also expect more attendance from instructors from around the country as they work to increase event bookings. Early information indicates that the primary hotel may already be sold out. But don’t worry – the Marriott is down the street. It is, after all, downtown Wichita. You aren’t going to have to walk far.

This is an excellent opportunity for instructors to expand their business while at the same time taking part in the Instructor track of professional development. Feel free to email me with any questions, and I look forward to seeing you there!

What: 2010 RAPDD & Educators Summit

When: February 10th – 12th, 2009

September is awesome!

Fall colors, cool Rocky Mountain air… There is nothing like Fall in Colorado. I do enjoy living here. I just wish I had more time to see it!

Turns out my schedule filled up pretty quickly this month, so I wanted to share just a couple of events that are coming up for me.

Next Wednesday, September 16th I will be presenting to the Wyoming Association of REALTORS® regarding the GRI, Graduate REALTOR® Institute Program. They were kind enough to schedule me to speak during the event.

Also upcoming is an e-PRO event being hosted by the Jefferson Going Association of REALTORS. That event will be taking place at JCAR September 23rd. I am looking forward to all of my other events, but these are a couple where I will actually have a chance to meet with and share stories and information with fellow Real Estate professionals in very comfortable settings. I hope to meet lots of new friends along the way.

3rd Annual RAPDD conference is a hit

About 100 real estate education directors, instructors, speakers and coordinators gathered in Wichita for the RAPDD Summit 2009. Having my first opportunity to attend, I must tell you it was a hit! The speakers were awesome and the connections made were invaluable.

Karen Becker, Professional Development Director for the Wichita Association of REALTORS® did a fantastic job of putting this event together. From the speakers down to being picked up at the airport, everything went as smooth as possible. Her reward? Dale Stinton, CEO of NAR, announced that NAR was offering a $400 stipend for Association Education Directors to attend the 2010 Summit!

Having met great people from around the country and learning a ton while I did it, I will tell you that from an educators point of view this was a wonderful conference. I expect that next year will be even better. Check out the wrap up video Doug Devitre made before he left – to teach! Doug will be in Colorado the next two weeks teaching NAR’s new Green course as well as Blogging, among others.

The Wichita Area Association of REALTORS® plays host to educators and Ed Directors from around the country as the 2009 REALTOR® Association Professional Development Directors Summit is being held next week, February 11th-13th, 2009, in Wichita, KS.

This year’s event will feature Dale Stinton, CEO of NAR and 2007 CIPS Instructor of the Year Marcus Wally. I will be there as well to learn from and meet Education Directors and other instructors. This should be a quality event and I look forward to my first RAPDD Summit!

Hard at work ~ and play

After a couple of much needed breaks in August, it seems that only my imagination could put this much new work in front of me. But, I will endeavor to persevere. The Education Committee at the Colorado Real Estate Commission is hard at work with two meetings already scheduled in September to create the new Commission Update course. This undertaking is huge as this short 4 hour course needs to cover about 2 hours of new laws and also include forms and rules and everything new in Colorado. A huge list that we are working to cover appropriately.

With the current outline now out of date, getting the new course completed is a priority for the CREC. I still estimate a September outline and majority of information, but with new forms coming out the entire body of the new course won’t be ready until October. I’d guess that the new course would be delivered right about the time the State convention happens October 21st in Colorado Springs.

Education Committee at CREC begins work

The new education committee that I have been appointed to at the Colorado Real Estate Commission began work today, just prior to my vacation. The committee will first be tasked with presenting a new outline for the CREC Annual Update course. A work session has been scheduled to go over preliminary ideas and information that the Division would like included. While the committee would like the entire process completed by September, the process of development will probably take longer than that, especially considering that their are at least 2 forms with major changes that need to be reviewed and included as well. I’d be looking for the new outline by the end of September.

CDEI Program launched by IDECC/ARELLO

Even I was shocked in St. Louis last month when the good folks at IDECC offered a discount to the attendees on the CDEI, or Certified Distance Education Instructor program. The CDEI has been in the works at IDECC and ARELLO for at least a year, and the launch of the first two courses was much anticipated.

Much anticipated by me, anyways. Most brokers, agents or lenders won’t ever hear of or learn about this type of education offering. As an instructor who trains other instructors, I’m always looking for anything that will help my teachers become better at their jobs. For most of us, training agents to be better at their jobs is, well, our job! And traditional classroom instructors think distance education or online training is an easy jump to make. Going from live to DE instruction, however, can be a difficult transition for many.

At VanEd we train instructors to first learn to use the tools that are available to them. The trick is to know where to start and how to communicate with the student when you get there. While we understand our tools, I’m hoping that the CDEI program helps me communicate better with my students and gives me ideas I can share with my teachers to make student communication even stronger. I’ll be working on earning my CDEI designation program this month, and I’ll let you know how it goes.
